Pandemic Monument
TL;DR: A dashboard for the pandemic in Malaysia with Prime Minister, news headlines keywords, exchange rate and cases of the day
Purpose
I have a Chrome extension that 'watches' a tab and records for new data from the server. It even works on Facebook. I needed something to test run, so I thought of using the extension on a news website, to make my test results useful anyway.
I can't believe it's been so long since the virus hit. A lot has happened, so I decided to build this. And yes, we have 3 Prime Ministers during this period. Since I am using public data, I just put my data on my GitHub repo. I then directly fetch the data from the repo, instead of storing in my website. Because the data will keep growing, I seperated my data by year and month to save loading time.
How to use
Just click the calendar to change date. You can automate it by either going forward or backward. Black dots on the map means no data for the day. Click the dots on the map to see number of cases in the state.
Note: it won't show the latest info, mostly only the previos day, because I have to wait for MoH to update.
Interesting insights found in the dashboard
1. When a Prime Minister is soon to be replaced, exchange rate drops
2. New Prime Minister increases exchange rate
3. 'Says' is almost always the most used words in news headlines, because well, talk is easy
4. On the second day of the term for current PM, cases in Selangor actually fell straight from 7000 to 5000, hmmm...
